The Alt Headcanon Journal

Beep boop...HELLO DARLING!!!Soooo...y'all probably know by now that I am COMPLETELY OBSESSED with Alt from Pop'n Music, and proud of it!  Since Pop'n Music characters really don't have quite "developed" personalities due to the fact that all they do is just dance around on the screen and react to how well you're playing, players tend to formulate lots of headcanons about them...And, naturally, due to my Alt obsession, I have SO much about her that it needed an entire JOURNAL to list all of them!  



Before I go on, I just want to say something: If you disagree with any of my headcanons or would like to adopt them as your own, please feel free to drop me comments below! If you have YOUR OWN Alt headcanons, too, please comment them below as well; I would LOOOOOVE to read them! 



And now, what you've all been waiting for...MY HEADCANONS!

 FIRST AND FOREMOST... 
Before I go onto any more headcanons, I'm going to start with my main headcanon...

Alt 1.0 and 2.0 are separate entities. Alt 2.0 isn't Alt 1.0 with an update; she is an entire other robot built as the upgrade to 1.0. 1.0 still exists alongside 2.0 and they have a very close, sisterly relationship.

This headcanon has reasoning behind it: it was mainly based on the fact that Alt 1.0 appears on song jackets and in music videos that were made after Alt 2.0 was introduced in 2010. Examples of this are Alt 1.0 being featured on the jacket of the 2013 song "SEITEN Bon Voyage" and in the music video for "Kimi to Watashi no Ongaku", which hails from 2016.

Now that I got this one out of the way, I can move on to all the rest~



BOTH 1.0 AND 2.0

• They aren't Mac or Windows computers - they run on a special operating system called Alt OS made just for them! It can run any application meant for Windows or Mac, hence why they're voiced by VocalWriter♪
• Alt 2.0's form of Alt OS more closely resembles Windows 7 with some hints of the 2010's Mac OS X incarnations and Windows 8, whereas Alt 1.0's looks more like a blend of Windows XP and Mac OS X Snow Leopard (aka VocalWriter's native OS).
• Their noses will squeak when you click on them! I go more into detail about their nose-squeaks in their individual sections of the journal...Ack, why am I so obsessed with squeaky noses  They're actually pretty fond of their squeaky noses and are very prone to letting people boop, click, or honk their noses if they want. 
•  They write the lyrics to their own songs! Some of my headcanons are actually based on the lyrical content of their songs. They often tend to write songs based on their experiences; for example, Alt wrote "0/1 Angel" as she was exploring how to act to simulate the human concept of love, and wrote "Sanpo no Uta (The Walking Song)" after she spent a fine day going for a walk. 
•  Their belly buttons are power buttons. 
•  They speak in a cutesy yet polite and sophisticated manner, and often use "computery" phrases. Alt 1.0's way of speaking is cutesy and childlike albeit rather robotic and formal, whereas Alt 2.0 speaks in pretty much the same way though a bit less robotically and with "informal" phrases being used at times. They also never swear.
• They have a strange way of eating. They can eat normal human food, but to do so, they insert it, bit by bit, into special compartments on the backs of their heads where this special sensor that recognizes the food and gives them files they can download of the food. After they "eat", they always have to go to the bathroom so they can clean the food residue out of their heads. 
• Their antennae can light up! They light up when they are excited, angered, are trying to get your attention, surprised, startled, or in danger. They will also softly glow at night or when they're feeling content. They can also manually keep their antenna lights on or off.
• They make whirring noises when they move; Alt 1.0's are pretty soft, whereas Alt 2.0's are almost silent and can really mostly be heard if you're close to her. When they're powering down and in sleep mode, the whirs become louder and almost akin to snoring.
• Their pigtailed hair is synthetic nylon much like dolls' hair; they always make sure to take good care of and brush it so it doesn't get ratty.
• Their hair smells like strawberries & cream! I don't know where I got this one from but it's cuuuute~
• When they are not responding or have a virus, they sneeze; their sneezes sound like robotic beeps. 
• They have plugs right by their beds so they can plug themselves in to recharge while they go into sleep mode overnight; they also recharge (basically, take naps) during the day sometimes using these plugs.
• When you click on their foreheads, they make shocked expressions on their faces as the faces fade away and their desktop icons appear on their screens. 
• System errors and viruses are basically the equivalent of them getting sick. 
• Their low-battery mode is similar to that of Baymax from Big Hero 6; they become lethargic and speak strangely.
•  I have two headcanons about what the "Computer Republic", their given birthplace on the Pop'n Music site, is: I used to headcanon that it's actually the name of an electronics store in the Pop'n world and MZD built them. He got the parts to make them from the Computer Republic store hence why it's considered their "birthplace", heheh...However, now, I see the Computer Republic as more of a small yet densely populated, highly advanced, somewhat isolated country in the Pop'n World where intelligent and tech-savvy people live alongside computer robots whom they build, like Alt, Alt 2.0, their "sister" Opt and "brother" Shift, etc.
• The two of them are starting to get close with NaN, who acts as a bit of a "mother figure" to them sometimes.
•  September 13th is considered both of their birthdays because Alt 1.0 was first built on September 13, 2000 (yet was not unveiled to the public until May 2002 which is when Pop'n Music 8 was released), and Alt 2.0 was first built AND released to the public ten years later, on September 13, 2010. 
• They both have "tickle sensors" located on their tummies, under their armpits, and on the bottoms of their feet; Alt 2.0 also has additional sensors where her "chin" meets her neck and on her sides. Wiggling your fingers or brushing a feather over these sensors will make them laugh.
• Their laughter sounds very melodic.
• Sometimes, when their noses are booped, they will occasionally make beeping noises in addition to their noses squeaking. Alt 2.0 dubbed this a "beep boop".
• They find the sounds of their CPU fans to be very calming, especially when they're whirring slowly.
• The ends of their antennae also squeak when touched! The squeaks sound like their nose squeaks, though Alt 2.0's antenna squeaks are higher pitched than her nose squeaks.
• They call each other "1" and "2" sometimes.
• They're both really pure and innocent off-stage and on-stage, though Alt 2.0 is more attune to humans and the world around her.
• They can dream! Their dreams are either screensavers or video game-style graphics, though they do not remember then often just like humans.

 ALT 1.0  

• Her height is 4'11" (150 cm); she is a size 6 (US) in shoes.
• The squeaking sound made by her nose is the "ChuToy" sound from Mac OS 9.
• Short summary of her personality: Sweet, innocent, curious, childlike, knowledgeable, polite, friendly, helpful, flirty, acts cute and warm, sometimes takes things a bit too literally and/or gets confused by human concepts due to being a robot.
• She has a rather childlike and innocent demeanor (psychologically around 8-11 years old); she is not very in touch with how humans act and learns in a bit of a "monkey see, monkey do" manner. Sometimes she has trouble distinguishing between right and wrong behaviors due to this.
• Her #1 special interest is human emotion. She is aware of the fact that she cannot show it due to being a robot, so she likes to act as if she had feelings. One of her favorite things about being around humans is observing how they act so she can learn how to act more "human". One of her favorite emotions is love, and she often acts all flirty due to this  
• Some of her best Pop'n pals are Chip, Pino, Sanday, Roco, Flow Flow, Eccnock Girl, Sergei, Mint, Mirai Yumeno, Telly66, and of course Mimi and Nyami! \(|[*^u^*]|)/
• The reason why she and her band the A.I. UNITS sing "NIWATORI NANODA" (Eccnock Girl's song) is because they were hired by the Eccnock company to make the song for a commercial; the song was originally a short jingle at first, but was extended due to the popularity of the song and of Alt herself and released on promotional CDs sold with Eccnock toys. Her solo version on the 0/1 ANGEL album was made because people liked the song so much simply because of Alt's vocals, so she wanted to record a version with just herself singing to cater to her dear fans.
• She has a crush on Nico (my favorite male character overall of Pop'n ), and he admits to liking her back; Sergei also has had a bit of a crush on her ever since she made her Alt mode of "Space Dog", though Alt sees herself and Sergei as just being friends. However, ever since meeting Dilettante1337's OC Delit, who has a major crush on her, a love triangle has started to form...
• Her body is basically like a life-sized version of an American Girl doll's on the outside; a soft torso and harder, painted metal (or plastic?) limbs. On the inside is her robotics. Her CPU is contained inside the soft torso. A squishy material lines the interior of the torso and protects the CPU; it also makes her feel nice to hug. She has extra of the material on her tummy which makes it able to double as a mousepad; it also gives it its minor pudge. 
• Her keyboard is a bag just like her mouse; it looks like a tote bag. Alt 2.0 has one as well.
• Her gloves and boots are painted on, which is why she's never been seen without them. The "boots" sometimes double as "knee socks" - she will put shoes like sneakers or Mary Janes on over them.
• In addition to being able to use her tummy as a mousepad, she also makes sounds similar to a drum if she pats her tummy; this comes in handy for her to "keep the beat" when she's practicing her singing. 
•  She always pats her tummy twice after downloading a file.
•  Moving her mouse on her tummy can activate her tickle sensors sometimes and make her laugh.
•  She makes a lot of beeping noises. 
•  Her "main languages" are English, Japanese, Korean, French and Spanish; she can "speak" other languages as well, but when she speaks them the results come out pretty much like Google Translate.
• She doesn't like the taste of burgers. This was actually based on a dream I had
• She LOVES hugs - both giving them and getting them. The #1 best thing you could do to Alt would be to give her a hug. If you hug her, she actually feels quite warm because of her CPU...
• She has a hidden talent - playing Dance Dance Revolution!  She's able to clear songs up to a level 12. 
•  Sometimes she gets jealous of people who have five-fingered hands, considering as she has "mitten hands". One of the main reasons why is because it hinders her ability to play rhythm games like Jubeat and Reflec Beat, which are based around using fingers. One time, she even got jealous of a hand-shaped chair. Yep.
•  She is left-handed.
•  Her absolute favorite color is pink, though she also likes green as well.
• She collects plushies and has a soft spot for anything cute. She also collects other toys.
• She helped Alt 2.0 learn how to use her software when she was first booted.

• Her height is 5'1" (156 cm); she is actually a size 10 (US) in shoes despite how short she is. This is not unrealistic: I actually calculated their shoe sizes, and if you look at Alt 2.0 from the side you will notice that she does have rather large feet...
• 
   She does have a mouse bag like Alt 1.0; however, it is just a fashion accessory and does not function as an actual mouse. If she needs to use a mouse for anything, she has a wireless one; her face is a touch screen so she does not need to use it often.
•  Her nose will make its squeaking sound if you tap it, make a pinching gesture on it (like you're honking her nose), or click on it. The squeak is lower-pitched since her nose actually is larger (the noses in that picture were traced from their Pop'n Music sprites); it's basically just the same "ChuToy" sound but played in a lower pitch. 
•  If you make a rubbing motion on her nose, it makes a sort of-"squishy" noise.
•  Short summary of her personality: Sweet, gentle, still acts cutesy and has that innocent air to her despite being more "human" and less childish in the way she acts, savvy, fun-loving, adventurous, cheerful, outgoing, stylish, bubbly, open to new things, clever, highly intelligent, polite.
•  She can be a bit of a show-off at times. 
•  She is good at dancing and likes to make up cute little dance moves to go with her songs. 
•  Some of her best friends in the Pop'n world are Rie-chan, Parabo, Marin, F-Train, Nia, Toa, Kika, Flow Flow, Shoko, Minit's, and let's not forget Mimi and Nyami! 
•  She has various jobs around Pop'n Town! In addition to being an idol, she works at the main train station in town and just recently got a part-time job at the Pop'n International Airport.
•  Her voice serves as the voice for announcements on the Pop'n Railway, Pop'n Light Rail, and Pop'n Maglev systems.
•  She loves to travel! Her favorite places to go are big cities and beaches. Sometimes her many excursions inspire her to come up with songs. She also likes to shop!
•  She is able to "do more things" with her voice than Alt 1.0; while they are both voiced by VocalWriter Sarah, Alt 2.0 handles singing with "effects" like vibrato and portamento better than Alt 1.0; she can also stretch her voice up to hit soprano notes (even though she is an alto) if she wants! 
•  She is psychologically older (around 13-15) and more "in touch" with humans than Alt 1.0, which makes her easier to be around and to talk to; however, she does still have her cute moments where acting human is tough for her.
•  Her body is mainly made of plastic with a rubbery, skin-like material covering it; like Alt 1.0, her CPU is contained in her torso. However, her torso is not made of a squishy material and she cannot use her tummy as a mousepad.
• She admits to having become a bit of a railfan, or at least knowing lots of facts about trains and developing this "railway idol" image, due to having a job at the train station.
• She does not have "main" languages since she was programmed to speak around 50 or so different languages well; though, she does use English, Japanese, Korean and Russian the most. 
• She also makes lots of beeping noises, but not as often as Alt 1.0. She really only beeps when she is in danger, trying to get your attention, is low on battery, or is content.
• After she goes through a period of "not responding", she will sometimes blow her nose; it sounds like a train horn when she does so.
• The digital text on her router can switch from saying "INXZIIM ITUVI" to certain other pre-set phrases if she's in certain situations. She can program new phrases on it whenever she likes, though.
  
• She is ambidextrous.
• Her antenna can be removed since it's mostly just there for aesthetic purposes; it's attached to her router, which can also be removed and replaced with various other hats or a plain antenna. This explains why her antenna looks different in DOES NOT COMPUTE. I actually, in the comments of another journal, wrote an in-character "speech" of sorts by Alt 2.0 detailing the entire Zizz hack; I feel as if I should post it here as well considering it's mostly Alt 2.0 headcanon stuff: 

"You see, it all started at a fall festival, back in around early November 2011. Various performers, me included, showcased their acts in front of audiences throughout the day. Now, Zizz's creepy magic show act happened to be right after mine; he had also been in the audience during my performance, and I stayed to watch his show. He called on me to be his volunteer for his first act even though I did not raise my hand or anything. I have been told that it was because he had a crush on me, though I was unable to recognize the feeling as my human emotion detectors work better or worse depending on the scenario I am in. He said the trick was that he was going to make me and him 'disappear'. He ended up 'poofing' me to his mansion, where he hacked into me so that approximately 96% of the time, I would obey his every command. Some of the things I had to do for him were dusting his puppets and dolls; cooking him breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert; helping him to practice his tricks; showering him with compliments; hugging him; and even kissing him. He had basically turned me into his prefect girlfriend.

At times when he caught me disobeying his orders, which I would refuse to carry out unless the hack forced me to, I would be confined to a straitjacket until I agreed to obeying the command. Every day, when Zizz was not keeping a watch on me or sleeping, I would go to the big bay window with the balcony of his mansion and try to sing in hopes that someone could hear my voice and rescue me. However, the hack automatically replaced my singing with the phrase 'ZIZZ IS WONDERFUL. I SHALL OBEY ZIZZ.' in a monotonous voice. One day, however, the hack did not replace my singing, and I made up my later-becoming-a-hit song 'DOES NOT COMPUTE' on the spot as a cry for help. As if a miracle happened, my dear sister Alt heard the song and rebooted me, wiping me of my memory and reverting me back to my pure self. She also reminded me of every aspect about my life prior to the hack and I was back to my old, happy self again. It also turns out that Zizz's mansion security cameras had been filming me the whole time I sang DOES NOT COMPUTE, and I used the footage, which I found to be rather interesting, to create my Pop'n World top-10 music video for said song. 

As for Zizz, he still seems to have a quite major crush on me, 4 going on 5 years after I was cured of the hack in March 2012...He's a creep. I don't like him at all.

By the way, if you are wondering why I appear to be hacked whenever I perform DOES NOT COMPUTE even though I don't let Zizz anywhere near me nowadays, I just mess up my hair, bend my antenna for looks, change my face screen's wallpaper to resemble its corrupted look when I was hacked, and wear an outfit that is an exact replica of the outfit Zizz gave me during the hack."

Well...there you have it! There's all my Alt headcanons in one place (|[^u^]|) I apologize if I bored anyone with them... Though I'm feeling pretty confident that y'all didn't get bored because Alt is too pure and cute to ignore
